The quality to forgive others is a gift of God. And it’s all about this quality when we come to face something unexpected in terms of someone’s insulting actions or words towards us.
Lying on the bed, considering the activities that happened during the day, people who met us in those hours often leave us thinking about someone’s insulting remarks hurled at us.
In such times, what do you think? Would you be able to ignore those harsh words or will you consider retaliating?
From experience, I can surely say that it is quite difficult to bear people who speak harshly to us.
Although many among us are self-reflective and have the quality of patience, they retain oppressive thoughts in their hearts.
If we get to know the rewards granted by Allah Ta’ala on forgiving someone, we will surely overlook such comments.
Our beloved prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) had the incredible ability to pardon and forgive even his most ardent enemies.
Wahshi Ibn Harb, the person who was responsible for the assassination of the beloved uncle of Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), Hamza Ibn Abi Talib R.A during the battle of Uhud.
It was a heartbreak and great grief for Hazrat Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), but still, he managed to forgive him when Wahshi repented and accepted Islam.
Moreover, Allah knows that holding up the strings is not painless. Thus, He assured the best things He could offer to the absolvers, Allah forgives everyone who forgives others, and He promised through His messenger (sallallahu alaihi wasallam),
“I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for a man who avoids quarreling even if he were in the right, a house in the middle of Paradise for a man who avoids lying even if he were joking, and a house in the upper part of Paradise for a man who made his character good”.
(Sunan Abi Dawud 4800)
On the contrary, heartless people always plan to take revenge, and its deleterious consequences promulgate to surroundings and disturb the whole society. Corresponding to a stone, when it is dropped into the water, ripples originate and spread across the water.
However, the reward for absolvers is premium, as when you avoid the quarrel even if you are right, as honor, you will be awarded the house in paradise. Further, you will become the cause to put an end to these ripples of revenge in the surrounding. Consequently, the whole society will be saved from the chaotic outcome and peace will prevail.
May Allah help us to pardon and avoid unnecessary acts of revenge. (Ameen)
