At UN session on October 28 Pakistan’s envoy, Munir Akram, rejected Canada’s reasoning, stating that if Canada was being fair in its amendment, it would also agree to name Israel along with Hamas.

The Israeli bombings against Palestinians for 20 days have resulted in 7,000 deaths, 17,000 injuries, and 1.1 million displacements. Canada’s representative insists on naming Hamas, stressing that only they are responsible for exigency in the region; it is neither equity nor fairness. Palestinians have been slaughtered by Israeli forces for more than a half-century, and this is an unacceptable situation. By claiming that the occupation, not the events on October 7, was the source of the crime, the Secretary General made a point that is appreciated by us . The reaction the Israeli representative gave was extremely demeaning, demanding resignation from the secretary general.
