The National Health Service (NHS) is a publicly funded healthcare system in England and one of the four National Health Service systems in the United Kingdom. It is considered to be one of the largest single-payer healthcare systems in the world.

Monday, 5th July 2022, marked the 73rd anniversary of this Health Institution.

The service was launched on July 5, 1948. It included a scope of endorsed clinical and drug treatments. This brought about a swift development in the utilization of meds and worked on general well-being with continuous financial and technological advancement.

The NHS is mainly responsible for assisting individuals in terms of their well-being and prosperity. It is also responsible for preventing chronic diseases and well-being disparities among citizens.

Apart from its vital role in everyday life, NHS has played a significant role in managing the current COVID-19 situation. This included treating the patients as well as ensuring the immunity of NHS workers to encourage them in continuing their noble work.

In terms of the Muslims’ contribution to NHS, the services rendered by Yunus Dudhwala, Chaplain at Barts Health in East London, and Shaykh Ahmad Faruq Siddiqi, Chaplain at The Royal London Hospital must truly be appreciated. The clergymen across the Trust have made a remarkable contribution, working dedicatedly to help COVID-effected patients and their families through these tough times. They are the unsung heroes whose efforts must be acknowledged.

Commenting on this occasion, Dudhwala said: “A service of commemoration and reflection, especially on the 73rd anniversary of the NHS, is really important to remind us of this great institution, and the amazing people who have dedicated their lives for the well-being of others.”

The contributions of British citizens should also be appreciated. Offering their services whenever required, Londoners hailing from different religions and ethnic backgrounds, displayed tremendous solidarity. Yunus Dudhwala is one of the major examples in this regard. His services will always be remembered.
