The followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani have always been craving to prove Iqbal’s connection to their cult. But his clear perspective disapproved of them and has always given them a crushing defeat!!

But what were the things that made Iqbal their easy target? Let me tell you.

In the early days, Iqbal was not very close to religion. In those days some events occurred when he was in contact with the followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani. The Kashmir Committee was one of them. The Maharaja of Kashmir appointed Mirza Bashiruddin as the head of the committee and Allama Iqbal was the General Secretary. Mirza Ghulam Qadiani’s son being the head of such a committee representing Muslims gave the impression that the followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani were one of the Muslim sects. The people of India and Allama Iqbal both were oblivious to the subterfuge and did not pay heed to this issue.

But prudent Muslim scholars envisaged the gravity of the situation. The followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani were trying to trap Iqbal and then his naive Muslim followers so the Ulama-e-Haq promptly came to the rescue!! Many Ulama tried to show Iqbal the correct picture of the followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani. Maulana Anwar Shah Kashmiri was one of those gems! He paid extra attention to Iqbal, and Iqbal also paid heed to him. He read Maulana’s books, wrote him letters and met him in person just to seek knowledge. He talked about his lack of knowledge about Mirza Ghulam Qadiani and Maulana Anwar Shah cleared all his confusions and helped him to get a better understanding of Islam.

The image of the followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani was clear to Allama Iqbal now!! He stood firmly and made his stance very clear calling the followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani the “traitors of Islam”.

Iqbal said:

“I personally began to doubt the Ahmadi movement when they announced the advent of the new prophet who was greater and better than Rasoolullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). All the Muslims were declared infidels. Later on, my doubts transformed into complete mutiny when I heard a member of the Ahmadiyya Community blaspheming Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)”.

He wrote a paper and delivered a speech informing about the cult. When Jawahir Laal Nehru stood up supporting the followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani, Iqbal in reply wrote a letter to Pandit Jawahir Lal Nehru on June 12, 1936, in which he elaborated Muslims opinion on Ahmadiyya Movement and categorically stated:

“The followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani are traitors to both Islam and the country.”

Allama Iqbal; also said,

“The followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani issue a drama and all the characters who have taken part in this drama are either very simple in nature or have become puppets in the face of mental decline.”

Muslim scholars polished him and he, being highly intellectual, understood the games and tactics of the followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani and showed their real face to the world through his speeches and essays.

Thus by the efforts of the Ulama, Allama Iqbal turned into an asset for the Muslims and a bane for the followers of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani.

According to Iqbal himself:
